Organized Mashup

My thoughts on social media.

What a Long Strange Trip its Been…

For those who read my blog, I want to thank you for your patience over the past few months given my lack of posts. I’ve actually been spending the majority of my free time looking for a new position with the right company.I decided to leave my current position for a numbers of reasons, but the main reason was lack of opportunity. When I say this, I mean a lack of opportunity in the world of social media.Today is my last day at Global Travel International (GTI). I have spent the past four years with a great company run by great people. I’ll truly miss them. However, I started to realize last fall that the decision makers were excited about the opportunity of implementing social media to improve the overall business yet they were afraid like most companies of the possible failures and drawbacks that transparency brings.

I was one employee out of a 100 who waived the social media flag. Sometimes people would follow, but the majority of the time they didn’t.

In my pursuit, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some great companies who are willing to take these chances. I even received a number of offers but they just didn’t feel right.I finally found the Team that I want to “play” for. It’s called Rasmussen College. The funny thing is, I had originally applied for a Marketing Manager position but ended up securing a new position they invented just for me!The position is much like that of the Community Manager position I wrote about last year thanks to input from Josh Hallet and Jeremiah Owyang.

I owe them a lot for this break. I say this because their writings inspired me to believe in this concept and I pushed it on many occasions at GTI yet I saw no interest whatsoever.

Rasmussen College believes in this concept and appears to be taking it very seriously.

It’ll be weird walking away from the travel business after so many years, but I’m excited.

I will continue to work on this blog with a general approach to social media and what I’m learning going forward.

Best Regards,

Mark Krupinski
